The Trouble We Bury

Chapter 7 confronts us with an uncomfortable truth: hidden sin never remains as small or private as we convince ourselves it will be. Following Israel's miraculous victory at Jericho, we witness a devastating defeat at the small town of Ai, all because one man, Achan, secretly took forbidden items and buried them in his tent. What makes this passage so relevant to our lives today is how it exposes our tendency to compartmentalize our disobedience while expecting God's blessing in other areas. Yet the gospel transforms this severe warning into an invitation: because of Jesus, we can be the freest people in the world to tell the truth about our sin, knowing that confession leads not to condemnation but to cleansing and restoration.
