Beware The Gods You Can Manage

Apr 19, 2026    Matt Eckhardt

Exodus 32-34 confronts us with the truth that: waiting has a way of exposing what we truly trust. When Moses delayed on Mount Sinai, the Israelites didn't just make a golden calf—they revealed the human condition we all share. We want a God we can manage, control, and see on our timeline. The devastating irony is that the Israelites' attempt to secure God's presence actually pushed them further from it. This is what idolatry does—it promises stability but delivers slavery, promises safety but delivers emptiness. . The question that pierces through these chapters is simple but searching: Would we still want God if all He gave us was Himself? Because without God, even the promised land isn't enough. The blessings we chase mean nothing if the Giver is gone.
