Mercy For The Messy
In this message from Joshua 9, we look at the surprising story of the Gibeonites—people who lied, manipulated, and came to God’s people the “wrong way,” yet still found mercy. Their fear led them to deception, but when their disguise fell apart, they were exposed and had nothing left to do but surrender themselves into Joshua’s hands. Instead of destruction, they were brought near, serving close to the altar of God—an image of how grace doesn’t erase consequences, but still gives undeserved nearness and a new life. This sermon reminds us that grace is not for people with neat stories and perfect motives, but for messy, scared, guilty people who finally come honestly and throw themselves on mercy. Our hope isn’t that we came to God the right way, but that Jesus—the “man on the middle cross”—has made a way for sinners to come.
