The Substitute Who Steps In

Reading: Exodus 4:24-26; Romans 5:6-11

Devotional: Zipporah's strange act of circumcising her son to save Moses' life foreshadows the greatest substitution in history. She did what Moses failed to do, and God counted it as sufficient. This defies our logic of justice—someone else's obedience covering our disobedience—yet it reveals God's heart. Where we fail to meet covenant requirements, Jesus steps in perfectly. He doesn't just cover our unintentional mistakes but takes seriously even our willful rebellion. The story seems bizarre until we realize it's pointing to the cross, where Jesus became our substitute, doing what we cannot and will not do: loving God perfectly and bearing the consequences of our failures. God looks at Christ's obedience and declares us righteous.

Reflection Question:
In what areas of failure do you need to accept that Jesus has already stepped in as your substitute?
