HEALING YOUR BODY
Isaiah 53:4-5
Yet he himself bore our sicknesses,
and he carried our pains;
but we in turn regarded him stricken,
struck down by God, and afflicted.
But he was pierced because of our rebellion,
crushed because of our iniquities;
punishment for our peace was on him,
and By his stripes we are healed.
Our world is full of physical hurts, sickness and disease. In fact, the longer you live it seems life is more about the physical pain involved with living than anything else. Pain is more the norm than the exception
Knowing how much pain is present in the world can lead us to minimize the importance of our own. “I don’t want to bother people with my problems because everyone has their own stuff to deal with.” But, God created us as spiritual and physical beings, intricately woven together. He created the physical world (Genesis 1 & 2) and He is redeeming it (Revelation 21 & 22). So, even when you think it might not, IT DOES MATTER!
It matters to God because He created it. He knows how it should be. But, most of all, He knows how much our physical hurts it affect us in all areas of our life. This is why we see so much of Jesus’ ministry spent ministering to the physical needs of people. We even see Him be sensitive to the physical needs of others during the most spiritually intense moments of His life.
When the mob comes to arrest Jesus it’s in a frenzy of fury Peter strikes out with a sword, cutting off Malchus’ ear. I think it’s fair to say that Jesus had bigger issues pressing down on Him than this man’s ear, yet he stops everything and takes the time to heal his physical wound. Jesus knows that our physical wounds go so much deeper than the surface on which they they present themselves. This is why He longs to provide His healing touch especially to the hurts we can see as merely a flesh wound!
You may be looking at the situation you are in and are prone to think, “Who am I that God should take special consideration of me? Other people need Him more than I do.” So, you stoically set off to carry your cross in silence. Listen: it matters to God because, no matter how much you might try to convince yourself it doesn’t, it matters to you. Stop listing the reasons why you shouldn’t bring your hurt to Him and let it loose. If He cares enough to heal a man involved in His unjust arrest then He wants to show you His grace, as well.
PRAY IT OVER:
Where have you been ignoring your hurt because it doesn’t seem important enough for God?
What areas of your life has your physical pain been affecting? How can you pray for God’s healing in those places?
