Certainty In The Uncertain

Day 1: Certainty In The Uncertain
Reading: Luke 11:39-41

Devotional: Our desire for certainty comes from an initially pure place. It is a desire placed in us from God with the intention of it driving us to the only one we can ever be certain about. Yet, sin has this way of slightly perverting what is otherwise good so that it leaves us missing the mark, missing God. So, if we don't find God, and still need certainty what's to be done? In short: Religious Rules. If we are not in a right relationship with God and receiving assurance of our place in this world from His Spirit then we will seek to assure ourselves through whatever means possible. This is where we get better at cleaning up the outside than we do at letting God transform the inside. Is there anywhere in your life that you've been more concerned with cleaning the outside of your dishes for the sake of assuring yourselves and others that you are right with God? We can't find the the certainty we crave while simply washing up.
