HEALING YOUR LONELINESS
Isaiah 53:3
He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of suffering who knew what sickness was.
He was like someone people turned away from;
he was despised, and we didn’t value him.
Right now all the introverts are wondering, “Why do I need healing for this? Being alone is exactly when I fell the most at peace. ” But, this isn’t about avoiding invitations to parties you’d rather not go to and then having to come up with an excuse for why you can’t come—no, it goes much deeper than all of that.
It’s about the deep need we all have to share our life; to share the things that really matter to us. We were created by God to be in this kind of intimacy with Him and each other. We can’t just ignore that, because, when we don’t live according to how we are designed, we don’t function like we should. But, as much as God knows this, Satan does too. This is exactly why our fallen world is fervently seeking to isolate us at all costs.. Notice what he does with Eve in the garden; he gets her on an island, questioning her, because he knows that’s when she’s the most vulnerable.
The threat and burden of isolation seems to be at the forefront of Jesus’ mind during His Passion. He speaks about betrayal, that the disciples will all fall away, that Peter will deny Him, their inability to stay awake with Him and ultimately the forsakenness He feels on the cross. This all from a man that was known just as much for the times he retreated to be alone as for the company he kept. The inability to share the important moments and aspects of our lives with God and others is a curse that we were never meant to endure, but it is one that Jesus chose to endure for our sake.
Here’s the thing: not only does God know we aren’t cut out to live isolated, but He also knows the pain of walking through life alone. He chose to do something He never meant for us to do in the first place. That’s why when He says that He “will never leave or forsake us”, we can count on it. It’s coming from someone that has had to carry that weight by Himself, and He does not wish for anyone else to do the same. He has paid the price for your loneliness and He has the answer for it: His Presence. Let Him show you today how you are never alone, because He created you for so much better!
PRAY IT OVER:
Where in your life do you feel the most isolated?
Who might already be a cure to your loneliness that you didn’t realize? How can the church be an answer to loneliness in Your life?
Whose life may God want you to be the answer to loneliness for?
