Daily Bread, Daily Dependence

Reading: Matthew 6:25-34; John 6:32-35

Devotional: Jesus called Himself the Bread of Life, echoing the manna that sustained Israel in the wilderness. Just as they couldn't survive on yesterday's provision, we can't live on yesterday's encounter with Christ. God designed our need to be daily, not because He's stingy, but because dependence keeps us close. Former slaves don't know how to stop working; their bodies are trained for survival through production. Perhaps you feel the same—guilty when resting, anxious when not achieving, worthy only when producing. But Jesus invites you to a different way: "Give us this day our daily bread." Not weekly, not monthly—daily. This rhythm trains us to recognize we're sustained, not self-made. You didn't create yourself, and you can't secure yourself. Today, instead of asking God to bless your self-sufficiency, ask Him to be your sufficiency. Let your needs remind you who your Provider is.

Reflection Question: How does your daily schedule reflect dependence on God versus dependence on your own effort?
