The Pillar Never Departs

Reading: Exodus 13:21-22; Hebrews 13:5-6

Devotional: The Israelites didn't get the short road, but they got something better: God's constant presence. The pillar of cloud and fire never departed from them. This is the trade God offers: not necessarily the easy path, but His unfailing presence on whatever path He chooses. Many of us pray for the short route when God keeps offering Himself. We want both—quick deliverance and divine presence—but sometimes the long journey is precisely where we learn to treasure His presence above our preferences. God's presence in the wilderness is worth more than arriving quickly on our own terms. He doesn't just send you on the long way and wish you luck. He goes before you, stays with you, and never leaves you to figure it out alone.

Reflection: Are you more focused on getting what you want quickly or on experiencing God's presence deeply?
