The Restless Heart

Reading: Psalm 62:1-8

Devotional: Augustine prayed, "Our hearts are restless until they rest in You." That restlessness isn't solved by better circumstances or careful image management. Israel tried to calm their anxiety by looking back to Egypt's familiarity. We do the same—managing appearances, controlling who sees what, staying hidden. But the gospel move is always toward light, not shadow. God doesn't say, "Hide better." He says, "Come out like you belong to Me." True rest comes not from controlling your narrative but from surrendering to His. When you stop trying to manage your own freedom and start following His lead, the restlessness begins to settle. You weren't made to live on probation. You were made to rest in Him.

Reflection: What are you trying to manage instead of surrendering to God's leadership?
