The Danger Of Forgetting

Reading: Deuteronomy 8:11-18

Devotional: "Write this down," God told Moses—the first time Scripture records this command. Why? Because humans forget. In crisis, we cry, "I'll never forget how God came through!" Six months later, facing a new valley, we ask, "Has God ever been faithful?" Forgetting isn't neutral; it makes us vulnerable. God gave Israel written records and stone altars—memorials to rehearse His faithfulness. What are your Ebenezers, your stones of remembrance? Start building habits: rehearse God's faithfulness in prayer, tell stories of His provision at your table, journal moments He helped you. Stay in Scripture not as religious performance but as lifeline. The wilderness keeps coming. If you don't remember what God has done, you'll interpret the present as if He's never been faithful.
