When Patience Isn't Permission

Reading: Genesis 17:1-14; Hebrews 10:26-31

Devotional: God's patience should never be confused with His permission. Like a loving parent who gives children space to learn, God allows us time to respond to His commands, but His grace doesn't nullify His holiness. The covenant requirements given to Abraham weren't arbitrary rules but expressions of God's holy character designed for His people's good. Moses learned this dramatically when his disobedience nearly cost him everything. We often minimize God's commands while maximizing His promises, creating a lopsided faith. But authentic grace includes both blessing and boundaries. God's instructions aren't burdensome restrictions but loving guardrails. When we ignore them, we're not just breaking rules—we're rejecting the good life He's designed for us.

Reflection Question:
What command of God have you been treating as optional, and what might change if you took it as seriously as His promises?
